It doesn’t end with “It Ends With Us.”
As Blake Lively deals with the backlash over her “tone deaf” approach to promoting her new film, she’s being mocked online for something she said in her 73-question Vogue interview 10 years ago to appear again.
In the video from July 2014, Lively, 37, is asked a series of fast-paced questions by an interviewer, and one of her responses is a social media shocker.
The journalist asked Lively which “movie you laughed the hardest through”.
“The Shawshank Redemption,” she replied bluntly.
The interviewer laughed out loud briefly before moving on to the next question.
It was an unexpected moment when Lively named the 1994 prison film as her funniest film.
The film follows a banker (Tim Robbins) who is sentenced to life in prison for murdering his wife and lover, despite his claims of innocence. He befriends a fellow inmate (Morgan Freeman) and becomes involved in a money laundering scheme behind bars.
Amid the “It Ends With Us” drama, Lively’s odd response in a Vogue interview went viral on TikTok, prompting her fans to call the actress out — again.
“I don’t think blake and I saw the same hawk redemption,” one fan said in the comments.
“The Shawshank Redemption? I cried watching it,” said another.
“She’s the type of person who’s always joking so there’s no real answer so you’re just sitting there like…wait what’s really going on,” someone else wrote.
Another TikToker said that Lively was being hurtful in her response, but that her response was “poorly delivered”.
“I think she was trying for a Ryan Reynolds-like response but she didn’t quite get it,” said another.
“It gets worse and worse AND worse,” said another, referring to the pile up of Lively’s past behavior that is resurfacing.
Fans also created a Reddit thread to discuss Lively’s “Shawshank Redemption” response.
“She is so blindly pretentious,” read one of the comments.
Others called them “cringe” and “idiot”.
They also called her out for saying in a Vogue interview that she relates more to the men on “Sex and the City” than the women.
During the press tour for “It Ends With Us,” Lively has been criticized for failing to discuss the film’s theme of domestic violence and instead promoting her new hair care line, Blake Brown, and her floral fashions.
The discourse about her behavior has been fueled by old clips of the star in previous interviews that continue to resurface.
In an interview for her film “Café Society” in 2016, Norwegian reporter Kjersti Flaa congratulated Lively, who was pregnant at the time, on her baby bump, prompting snippy responses from the actress.
Flaa posted the video on YouTube with the title, “The Blake Lively interview that made me quit my job.”
A 2012 Elle magazine interview has resurfaced in which Lively repeatedly used a transgender slur when discussing her future children.
User X posted an image of her quote: “I hope to have a few girls one day. If they’re not girls, they better be trannies. Because I have amazing shoes and bags and stories that need to be understood.”
Lively is also in the middle of a rumored feud with her “It Ends With Us” co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
The two have done no press together and even watched the film in different movie theaters at the premiere in New York on August 6.
Baldoni has since hired crisis PR manager Melissa Nathan, who represented Johnny Depp during the Amber Heard trial.
The drama made headlines, but she finally resurfaced for her $17 million 37th birthday party at Taylor Swift’s Rhode Island mansion last weekend.
Her husband Ryan Reynolds and other celebrities, like Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce, Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid were also at the party.
