“Inside Out 2” (Disney), the biggest domestic film since “Top Gun: Maverick” finally arrived in 2022. Released in theaters on June 10, it is still ranked #10 at the box office last weekend — which is probably why it could start with a three-day rental of $24.99 and reach first place at iTunes (ranked by transactions) and Fandango (ranked by revenue).
This week Netflix had three of its own original films among the four main films, led by “The Union” with Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry. The secret agent comedy thriller is #1 for a second week, a rarity among Netflix Originals.
Also, Neon, the low-budget sleeper hit “Longlegs,” came in third on both sites in the VOD charts. This came after six weeks of strong theatrical success, with $73 million to date.
Unusually, iTunes and Fandango shared the same four main movies. “Twisters” (Universal), last week’s #1, is second at both, and “Despicable Me 4” (Universal) is fourth.
Also new this week and making both charts is “Oddity” (IFC), a horror film about a psychic trying to solve a murder. Part of IFC’s partnership with Shudder, this grossed $1.2 million in theaters last month. It’s #9 at iTunes, #10 at Fandango for $6.99 rentals.
Joining “The Union” this week at Netflix is his teen comedy “Incoming” (fresh tension at a high school party) at #2 and the documentary “Untold: The Murder of Air McNair” at fourth . Just added this week is Universal’s 2023 “Migration” at #3, one of six animated titles in the top 10. Steven Soderbergh’s 2017 “Logan Lucky” at #5 is the only live-action studio film listed this week.
