2024 Fall Horror Preview

The spooky season is almost here, and with it comes a fresh batch of horror movies to frighten and delight audiences.

We have waited long enough, children of the night! It’s time to make music. Halloween will be upon us before we know it, and that means streamers and theaters alike will soon be packed with — to quote Diondre Cole — “spirited, kooky, ooky, soupy, loopy, it’s the great pumpkin , Snoopy!” Legacy sequels, family-friendly horror flicks, premium creature features, gnarly slashers, and even a Christmas horror film have graced our screens in the next two months leading up to the big day. Here are all the big horror movies coming out in September and October 2024.


September


Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
(2024)

Starring: Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe

Everyone’s favorite bio-exorcist is back! Tim Burton returns to direct a sequel to the popular horror comedy 36 years after its original release. Familiar faces return, this time with some fresh new victims of Beetlejuice’s shenanigans. Expect out-of-this-world set designs, plenty of visual gags, and a love of the macabre that brings old-school style to the modern blockbuster.

In the original Eggers Brothers film, Belinda’s pregnant mother-in-law moves in and tries to get her claws on her baby. Now, Belinda is forced to draw the line somewhere to protect her family. Brandy stars in this A24 psychological thriller alongside Kathryn Hunter, who plays her mother-in-law.


Do not speak evil

The original Do not speak evil brutal movie that ended, and now we’re getting a remake that brings the horror a little closer to home. In this tale of good manners gone dead, a perfect weekend getaway often turns into a nightmare when an American family stays at the country estate of a British family they befriended on vacation. Throw James McAvoy into another scary situation, and you have a perfect recipe for thrills and chills.

Coralie Fargeat, who delighted the audience with her debut revengeit’s finally back, and this Cannes Best Screen Winner promises to go just as hard on the thrill. The film follows a former A-lister (Demi Moore) fired from her fitness TV show who tries a mysterious new drug that gives her a whole new body – literally. Cannes critics praised Moore’s performance and the film’s grotesque body horror.

Director of the poignant Game The Girl with all the Gifts He’s back with another horror film, this time highlighting the sheer horror of being a child. Although It follows a man who narrowly escaped the titular mythical monster as a child, and now a father himself, the creature is back and in search of his family.


Never Let Go
(2024)

Directed by: Alexandre Aja
Starring: Halle Berry, Percy Daggs IV, Anthony B. Jenkins
Issue Date: September 20, 2024

Halle Berry in a horror movie! Need we say more? If you need more convincing, enter Alexandre Aja, director of the amazing alligator creature feature Crawland a story about a mother and her twin sons who are literally tied with ropes to stay connected and safe from the evil spirits that haunt them — until the bonds begin to come undone. Audiences can expect an emotional horror film that is full of fun, and a dog that will make it safe and sound until the end of the story.

Different Man

Starring: Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve, Adam Pearson
Issue Date: October 4, 2024

This genre-bender from A24 delighted Sundance audiences, who praised Sebastian Stan’s performance as an aspiring actor who undergoes a medical procedure that dramatically changes his appearance and gives him nightmares about his new winning smile. There’s drama, there’s sci-fi, and there’s comedy, as well as a healthy dose of body horror and even some Lynchian vibes in this gothic descent into madness.


Platform 2

Directed by: Ask Castle Fad
Starring: Milena Smit, Hovik Keuchkerien
Date of Performance: October 4, 2024 on Netflix

Seconds are serving Netflix with Platform 2the sequel to the massive 2020 Spanish horror film about a futuristic vertical prison where people who aren’t on high floors fight to eat scraps — or anything. The sequel introduces a new leader The Platform who imposes their harsh rule and punishment. A new resident confronting the prison’s feeding system is rising up against them. It looks like the new movie is all about cannibalism, so expect more fun in this new installment.


V/H/S/Around
(2024)


Directed by: Jordan Downey, Christian & Justin Long, Justin Martinez, Virat Pal, Kate Siegel
Date of Performance: October 4, 2024 on Shudder

The V/H/S The franchise is back with a seventh film, this time with six new scary stories with a sci-fi twist. The anthology series has always prided itself on tapping the inspiring voices of horror and introducing some of the genre’s biggest filmmakers of tomorrow. This time we have a directorial debut Hill House Gambling starring Kate Siegel, from a script by horror master Mike Flanagan. Justin Long and his brother Christian Long write and direct an episode, and Judge Martinez of the Radio Silence collective returns to lead a new segment after the first has been reserved V/H/S.


Terrible 3

Starring: David Howard Thornton, Lauren LaVera, Chris Jericho

Arthur the Cloak is back, and few things in life are as certain as the knowledge that he will bring with him plenty of horrifying gossip. This time, Terrible 3 will tackle a fan-favorite holiday genre double, the Christmas horror movie, as Art the Clown unleashes chaos in a town preparing for the holidays and Victoria Heyes, the possessed villainess, returns for another round of terror.


Smile 2
(2024)

Directed by: Finn Park
Starring: Naomi Scott, Lukas Cage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner
Issue Date: October 18, 2024

The first Smile It was one of the biggest horror hits of 2022, so of course we’re back for more laughs – and more deadly demons. Director Parker Finn is back at the helm, and this time he’s facing the world of pop superstars, after a pop sensation that begins strange and bloody events. Is the fame coming to her? Or something more sinister?
